The ministry of education has initiated a reading program called NILAM. For the NILAM program, students need to complete reading one book a week and give feedback either in written or sketch form based on students' proficiency and understanding level.
In March I had the pleasure of being appointed to judge again at the Nilam competition in Johor Bahru. This program showcases the selected students' ability to talk about and what they have read. It quizzes them on general knowledge and we looked at the way in which the young students present themselves, being able to participate in really difficult topics and discussions.
A lively debate finished off the day and brought home some surprising and hard hitting points to us, the judge and myself.
