SK Bandar Putra - Brighton English Space Launch 2014

SK Bandar Putra - Brighton English Space Launch 2014

Brighton Education launched a very special reading space at SK Bandar Putra in conjunction with the IQRA project designed buy Puan Saerah and her colleague Puan Anita from the Kulai PPD.

The GB of SK Bandar Putra generously donated an awesome amphitheater for the creation of our Brighton English Space.

Here the books donated by Lynne Vince-Jillings and Brighton will be available in the IQRA book houses for children throughout the school day.

This Brighton Space will also be used for dramas, plays, and various English activities throughout the year.

SISC + 21ST Century Learning.

Lecture and presentation at SK Taman Kota Kulai attended by the English and other teachers in the school.

They were interested to see what the SISC Plus program was all about and it was led by Puan Julia from the Kulai PPD.

Teachers were excited to see how technology will play an integral role in the future - we look forward to implementing a lot of what she taught us.

Program was organised Brighton ELC.

Summer Camp 2014

Brighton Mentors and Fulbright ETAs got together to create a Dr Seuss Summer Camp for 600 TELL and Non- TELL schools.

Students and Mentors had a great time playing games games that promoted awareness of learning the English language.

It was a really big group of 60 schools with a mixture of children from Non-TELL schools and from the TELL 2 project. We believe a good time was had by all involved.

We played games like 'Monkeys-in-the-middle', singing camp songs and encouraging the students to use English by doing war cries and doing group activities.

Pre-Ramadan Surprise Birthday Party

Teachers at Bandar Putra threw a surprise birthday celebration for ELC, Lynnette a month in advance.
My thoughtful and sweet Teachers knew we couldn't celebrate during Ramadan so we celebrated a month in advance with a wonderful chocolate cake! So delighted to have such wonderful thoughtful people around me.

Mentor Down

Dramatic rescue of doomed TPD. Due to unforeseen complications, a 3 hour TPD in Saleng nearly didn't happen. However, Kulai cluster Mentors, Lynnette and Randall stepped in and saved the day, and what a great day we had with the five schools from the Seletan Sub-cluster.

Non -TELL 2 Phonics Event

On the 19th of July, 2014, the Kulai Cluster hosted an Non-TELL Event to which we invited 40, schools not on the TELL 2 Program.
This was held in conjunction with the DLO from Kulai, Puan Saerah. We are delighted to report that we had a great turn-out and had an immensely fun time.
Reports-back have been very favourable with interest shown in the TELL Program.

Best Practices.

A few images of what the Utara teachers have been up to...

First up we have Ms. Sally Siti Salehah Binti Masrom at Bukit Batu who with a genius idea helped her kids develop plants as a reward system.
The kids really enjoyed learning about the Unit and the quiz afterwards. Please see attached images of this and speech bubbles we used during our lessons(Thanks to Ms. Lynnette Vince-Jillings for this great idea!).

Below we have students and Teachers from the Utara area in Kulai:

Next up we have a teacher from the same school, SKLTP Bukit Batu, Nur Atiqah Liviani Binti Lausin.
She used Origami and had her students learning about clothing. The images indicate part of the artistic side of the students.

Below we have students from the Bandar Pulau area in Kulai:

Much much more to follow... please keep your eye on this space as well.

Johor cohort sharing ideas, plans and... a meal.

So the long awaited Johor group of Mentors finally got together to sit down with their Project Manager to talk about all things Brighton. Needless to say, the day turned out to be a great success! Please peruse our site to have a look at some memorable images of the people who made the day possible. Many thanks to Kareem Chris Storer from Brighton Education Group and the many faithful people(too many to mention) who helped make the day educational and fun at the same time. Thanks to Ashanti Paul for the images.

Events for August

A look into our schedule for August. More events/schedules to follow... please keep an eye on this space?

Welcoming our new Mentor, Irfaan.

An old day passes and a new day arrives. A previous Mentor left and a new one arrived to assist the Kulai Cluster.

The importance, however, is to make it all meaningful. Make meaningful friends and relationships and work towards making every day ... a meaningful day!

This is our aim and our goal as we welcome Mr. Irfaan Ansari to the Seletan Sub-Cluster and to the Kulai area as a whole. A South African English Language Professional, he brings with him a wealth of experience from Saudi Arabia.

The times ahead may bring with it many new challenges - a teacher, for some a new school, perhaps some unfamiliar faces or a friend.

Shall we all rally around and make our new colleague feel thoroughly welcome and we all wish him all the best in his new role.

English Speaking Competition at SJKC Bukit Batu

On the 26th of May 2014, we attended an English Speaking Competition at SJKC Bukit Batu.

We were asked to be judges for the competition and had a wonderful time dealing with the school staff and students.
A local newspaper decided to include us on their front page.
A great day of fun and learning.
Thanks to the Brighton Education Group and The Kulai Cluster in Johor Bahru from SKJC Bukit Batu for all their involvement.

Farewell to Mentor

Kulai Cluster – the mentors and teachers of Kulai cluster regret to acknowledge that Margaret Ross – left us this June holiday due to personal reasons.  Margie was a popular mentor and we will miss her a great deal.

IQRA Reading Programme

IQRA reading programme in conjunction with the DLO from Kulai and UTM was introduced to Sedenak School in May 2014.  A unique system that teaches kids to love and cherish books.  We were delighted to be invited to hold a reading workshop to help promote the programme.

Teachers' Day

All over the world teachers are honoured on this special day -dedicated to those amazing people we call teachers.
A teachers job is one of educator, actor, artist, innovator, admonisher, adviser, coach, confidant, psychologist, nursemaid, consultant, counselor, , doctor,  educationist, guide, , instructor, , mentor, monitor, nose wiper, orienter, trainer, tutor| and in fact I could spend countless minutes writing about the role of the teacher.

How many times I have got a lump in my throat watching the tenderness, the dedication of some teachers.  How often I have watched as teachers try and manage their emotions, their reactions and themselves in the classroom.
How often have we seen a teacher spend hours trying to make a lesson wonderful and exciting for the students only to have it bomb and fall flat – how often have you as a teacher glowed with pleasure and pride when a class is having a great time and YOU know you have facilitated learning
How wonderful have YOU as a teacher felt when the light of recognition lights up in a Childs eyes and you know you have reached him
Teachers – without the teachers what would our world be? – Those in classrooms on sports fields, on stages.

Those teachers everywhere, in everyday life – the people who are our teachers in this classroom, called life.
Here’s to those who have taught us in so many ways – in so many places and so many times and they didn’t even know
We celebrate you – the teachers
From the Kulai Cluster.

A good teacher, like a good entertainer first must hold his audience's attention, then he can teach his lesson.
John Henrik Clarke

I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.
John Steinbeck
